TLDEF In The News
Since our last newsletter, TLDEF’s work has been featured in numerous media reports. The New York Times featured TLDEF prominently when it broke the news that New York State had issued guidance requiring health insurance companies to cover transgender health care on the same terms as other care. Several other outlets also included TLDEF in their reporting on this issue, including Reuters, The Associated Press, New York Magazine, and more.
TLDEF began the year with a feature story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that focused on the one-year anniversary of the Name Change Project in that city. Soon after, the Miami Herald and Yahoo News quoted TLDEF in stories about the challenges that transgender people face in prison.
The media also covered TLDEF’s advocacy work in reporting on New York State’s move to end the exclusion of transgender health care in its Medicaid program. The Advocate, the New York Post, Capital, and several more outlets included TLDEF in their coverage.
Most recently, TLDEF’s condemnation of anti-transgender legislation received press attention from The Advocate, Dallas Voice, and others. Additionally, TLDEF’s statement on the indictment of James Dixon in the killing of Islan Nettles was featured in the New York Daily News, DNA Info, The Advocate, and other publications.
This media attention helps educate the American public about the importance of transgender rights. We will continue speak out on these issues as the year progresses. You can read all of our collected press coverage here.
