TLDEF Observes World AIDS Day
December 1, 2015 - TLDEF commemorates this 28th World AIDS Day, honoring all those we have lost and all who are bravely living with HIV, including the transgender people we serve.
Statement from Executive Director Michael Silverman
“On World AIDS Day we stand with advocates around the globe in paying tribute to the nearly 39 million people lost to AIDS and the nearly 37 million people who are living with HIV. Transgender women of color in particular face alarmingly high rates of infection. Discrimination against transgender people hinders prevention and treatment efforts and must be addressed.
“TLDEF will continue providing legal support for all of our clients who are living with HIV and helping to make their paths easier. We must all commit to educating our communities about the importance of prevention and testing and the vital need to end the stigma around HIV/AIDS.”
